Summary: Resolution adopted by the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs in July 2021, concerning the bilateral relations between Russia and the European Union (EU). Further information: A new phase in bilateral relations was marked by Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014. Relations have since 2016 been based on five principles, in addition to those stipulated by theĀ Joint Communication from June 2021. The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee adopted a draft recommendation on 19 July 2021, to be subject to debate by the plenary in September 2021. The draft resolution acknowledges that the approach adopted by the European Union contained the risk of Russian aggression, but also calls for a review of EU policy. |
