Summary: Communication published by the European Commission on 30 September 2020, setting out a Digital Education Action Plan for the period 2021-2027. Further information: The Political Guidelines put forward by the President of the European Commission highlight the need to unlock the potential of digital technologies for learning and teaching and to develop digital skills for all. The education and training system is increasingly part of the digital transformation and can harness its benefits and opportunities. However, it also needs to effectively manage the risks of the digital transformation, including the risk of an urban/rural digital divide where certain people can benefit more than others. The Digital Education Action Plan (DEAP 2021-2027) proposes a set of initiatives for high‑quality, inclusive and accessible digital education in Europe. It is a call to action for stronger cooperation between Member States at European level, as well as with and between stakeholders, to make education and training systems truly fit for the digital age. The Action Plan has two long-term strategic priorities:
