Funding guide mounted on the Web The European Commission Representation in the UK has mounted the long-awaited updated version of its funding guide on the London Office website at http://www.cec.org.uk/info/pubs/funding/contents.htm. Entitled Funding from the European Union, the web version gives access to the information via hyperlinks on a detailed contents page or through a keyword search facility which searches all the pages on the site, not just the funding guide. A printed edition will be available in September. Advance orders for a free copy can be registered by clicking on the link on the funding guide page. This leads to the online catalogue of all the free publications available from the Commission Representation. The guide is clearly written with useful contacts and a wealth of information. It provides an excellent starting point to identify possible opportunities. Break in IPR-Helpdesk service The intellectual property rights pilot project, the IPR-Helpdesk, is due to come to an end on 31 August 2001. The website may be removed temporarily but it is expected to reappear shortly. The logic of producing the IPR CD-ROM of the website becomes apparent. Similarly the other services such as the Legal Helpline at info@ipr-helpdesk.org and the newsletters IP-News and IP-Wire will also be suspended. Negotiations on a new contract to continue the service are in hand but it is envisaged that this may take some months to finalise. Safer Internet A new website, sponsored by the European Commission, has been established at http://www.saferinternet.org/ to promote the safer use of the Internet. It offers the latest news on relevant issues including legislation, reports, news items, filtering, funding opportunities and awareness raising activities. There is the obligatory discussion section and e-mail alert facility as well as a running headline of statistics on Internet use. A flyer in each of the official languages can be downloaded from the site. |
