Governance site launch

A website which should carry significant information in the future is the newly launched Governance site at http://europa.eu.int/comm/governance/index_en.htm. One of the Commission's four strategic priorities is the promotion of new forms of governance and it intends to publish a White Paper on the topic in mid-2001. Governance is defined as the 'rules, processes and practices which determine how European powers are exercised: accountability, visibility, transparency, coherence and effectiveness'. First steps towards the drafting of the White Paper are outlined on the website and there are also links to the website of the Forward Studies Unit of the Commission at http://europa.eu.int/comm/cdp/gouvernance/index_en.htm which offers a number of full text papers on the subject. As discussion of this key area develops, no doubt the content of the website will reflect the debate.

Electronic version of The ABC of Community Law coming soon

EU information providers will have been pleased to receive printed copies of the long awaited new edition of the Commission's publication on the legal and judicial system, The ABC of Community Law (Catalogue no. PD-25-99-221-EN-C). The manuscript by Klaus-Dieter Borchardt was completed in September 1999 and published in 2000.
