EU Aware launch

Ellis Publications of the Netherlands, part of the Thomson Group, is holding the official launch of its new current awareness web-based product EU Aware on the 29th November in Brussels. The contents include the press releases of the institutions, Proceedings of the Court of Justice, recent judgements, calendars, speeches, minutes and working documents of the European Parliament, the Legislative Observatory and What's New on Europa. Many of the full text documents are in pdf format. EU Aware will be updated weekly and has an annual subscription rate of £495. Ellis has also now launched a Dutch version of the OJ Online, EG Recht Online.

In addition to these new products, Ellis is also supplying database content to Westlaw, the American legal and business Internet research tool. The enhanced CELEX data is organised into six databases that are updated twice weekly.

Discussion lists migrate from Mailbase to JISCmail

The contract to provide the National Academic Mailing List Service to the UK higher and further education community was not renewed with the existing provider, Mailbase, but has been awarded instead to the Council for the Central Laboratories of the Research Councils. The name Mailbase will be retained by the University of Newcastle and that service will continue to support fee-paying lists. However the free discussion lists will migrate to the new service, JISCmail and go live on 27 November. From the point of view of European information providers, members of lists such as eurodoc, the list for European Documentation Centres, and eurotalk, the e-mail list of the European Information Association, will be affected by the changes. JISCmail uses the LISTSERV software, so users will notice some differences in the commands as well as the interface. However for the moment, the main thing for discussion list members to remember is that, instead of posting messages to listname@mailbase.ac.uk, if they wish to send a message to the list they should now direct it to listname@jiscmail.ac.uk . The list archives will be frozen at Newcastle though they will still be available for some time. They will also be transferred to the new service and updated there. Additional services are promised in due course, once the transition has been achieved.
