Eurobases

Alongside ECHO, the other official database host is Eurobases. The Database Distribution Service of the Commission began operating under that name in 1989 and it had at that time responsibility for CELEX and SCAD. In 1992 it moved from DGIX to become part of the Office for Official Publications, its present home. Other databases became available later, including RAPID, SESAME which migrated from ECHO, ECLAS, INFO92, and EUROCRON. While CELEX, SCAD and SESAME used the Mistral command language, RAPID and ECLAS used BASIS with guided search alternatives. INFO92 and EUROCRON, the now withdrawn statistical database, offered menu driven approaches, so there was no standardisation of interfaces.
