EUR-Lex — new features

The search function of EUR-Lex (from the menu on the left of the screen) now offers some additional features which can easily be missed as you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to pick them up. As you scroll past, note that the plain text search box now has the added facility of allowing limitation by type of document through check box selection. It is in fact possible to search here not just for words but for a CELEX document number as the system recognises the string. However, there is now also a neat search option for legislation in force which does not require you to be able to construct a CELEX document number. It does it for you as you watch. Simply select the type of legislation, such as a directive, then fill in the boxes for the year and the directive number (no need to worry about adding extra zeros) and you will see the system create the full number in the Document Number box. Another new option is the Search by OJ number feature, where you have the published reference in the Official Journal. Again simply complete the boxes with the information you have. It is important to note, however, that this only gives access to the recent issues highlighted on the calendar of the Official Journal available in pdf format. Earlier references, if identified, will refer you to the EUDOR document delivery service for a copy of the text.
