The European Commissioner for Development started on 10 February 2014 a visit to Mauritania, Senegal and Cape Verde. Future priorities and ongoing areas of cooperation were part of the discussions held by the Commissioner and these countries' authorities, notably to implement EU's development blueprint known as the Agenda for Change. On 10 February, the Commissioner announced €195 million allocated to fund Mauritania in the areas of food security, rule of law and healthcare for the period 2014-2020. On 12 February, €347 million were announced to support Senegal in the areas of democratic governance, sustainable agricultural development, food security and in improved water and sanitation. On 14 February, the Commissioner announced further €55 million to support Cape Verde on the areas of the fight against poverty, sustainable and inclusive growth and good governance. |
