At the beginning of each year, the FRIDE team makes a review of the possible challenges for European foreign policy in the next 12 months. This time, the central issue is how foreign policy can represent added value in 2013, a year of political and economic crisis. Europe's performance in the world is not a substitute for the start of economic growth and the strengthening of social cohesion in the region. But Europe will not be a safe and prosperous place if she remains isolated in an increasingly unstable neighbourhood and a world in constant change. In 2013, the EU and its Member States should carefully explore where can make a difference together, based on their common values, putting into practice a strategy of the whole Union and gaining influence through collective action. FRIDE's 2013 annual publication offers recommendations on key areas for external action, the EU neighbourhood and the regions and fundamental powers. |
