EUObserver reported that days away from taking over the EU's rotating Presidency on 1 January 2012 that will be responsible in part for steering through a new intergovernmental treaty, the Danish government become stuck in a quagmire of resistance to the so-called fiscal compact proposed as a way of dealing with the eurozone debt crisis at the European Council, Brussels, 8-9 December 2011.
