Background and further information: The full details of the government's new initiatives were announced on the 13 November. It aimed to introduce 34 initiatives spread across five main areas: + changes to the conditions faced by asylum seekers The Danish National Police (Rigspolitiet) estimated that at least 10,900 people crossed into Denmark between 2-9 November, an all time record (although many of these were aiming to travel onto Sweden). The Local.dk reported on the 24 November 2015 that Mr Rasmussen had announced that Denmark would no longer be taking in the 1,000 refugees it had promised to the EU in September 2015. Mr Rasmussen announced on 14 December 2015 the introduction of border controls with Germany on 4 January 2016, simultaneous with the introduction of ID checks on Øresund bridge, connecting Denmark and Sweden. Denmark's Prime Minister announced on the 10 November 2015 that his government's intention to introduce new initiatives aimed at bringing down the number of refugees and migrants who come to Denmark. The measures were put forward before a decision to introduce border controls with Germany was taken in December. |
