Features reported that Russia had sharply cut gas supplies to nine European countries in early February 2012 as it struggled to cope with a cold snap that had gripped the European continent and seen a jump in demand for energy.

The reduction in natural gas flows led to a blame game, with Russia’s Gazprom saying a freezing Europe was demanding more than the company is required to deliver.
