Summary: The European Union’s general budget for the financial year 2019 was adopted by the European Parliament on 12 December 2018. Further information: The original draft general budget for the financial year 2019 was presented by the European Commission on 21 June 2018. The Council of the European Union completed its reading of the draft budget on 4 September, and the European Parliament adopted its reading on 25 October. On 16 October the Commission presented updated estimates for the year 2019. As the European Parliament adopted amendments to the draft budget which could not be accepted by the Council, a Conciliation Committee was convened. The Conciliation Committee worked over a period of twenty-one days, between 30 October and 19 November. Although significant progress was made during the discussions, it was not possible to reconcile the positions of the European Parliament and Council within this period. In the absence of agreement in the Conciliation Committee, on 30 November the Commission submitted a second draft budget for 2019. |
