The European Defece Agency (EDA) National Armaments Directors, in March 2011, decided on the creation of a Defence Industry Data (DID) as a sound basis for the objective research and analysis of the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB), which would guide future decisions and policies to the mutual benefit of Member States and the EDA. More specifically, they tasked the EDA with mapping the European defence industry landscape and to identify relevant companies of all sizes in the different defence sectors, including land, naval and aerospace, as well as their most relevant commercial, financial and organizational parameters. To fulfil this task, the EDA commissioned a study on the DID in autumn 2010. The results of the study are expected to be made available in Spring 2011.
