Declaration on patent rules cheers developing nations

Health activists and the pharmaceutical industry welcomed the declaration by the World Trade Organisation on 14 November 2001 (at the Fourth WTO Ministerial Meeting in Doha, Qatar) on access to medicines that makes clear the rights of poor countries, under WTO rules, to override patents in the interests of public health.
