Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the elections in Bolivia on 18 December 2005

As made clear in its statement on 31 October, the European Union considered the forthcoming elections in Bolivia to be of great significance for the future interests of the country and all its citizens.

The European Union has the refore continued to follow closely preparations for the elections and welcomed the executive decree issued by President Rodriguez on 1 November ensuring they would take place on 18 December.
The European Union now called upon all political players, civil society and ordinary Bolivians to support the electoral process and to ensure that it leaded to a peaceful and democratic transition of power next January.
