Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on Presidential elections in Panama

On the 13 May 2004, the European Union welcomed the successful holding of elections in Panama on 2 May 2004 and expressed its sincere congratulations to the President-elect, Mr. Martin Torrijos Espino.
The high voter turnout for the poll, which was freely and fairly conducted, confirmed the strength and maturity of Panamanian democracy.

After this election, the European Union confirmed that it would continue its support for the economic development of Panama and looks forward to strengthening its ties with this country.
