Summary:Decision (EU) 2023/2748 - adopted by the co-legislators on 22 November 2023 - mobilising the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) in response to application EGF/2023/002 BE/Makro. Further information:The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aims to provide support for workers made redundant and self-employed persons whose activity has ceased as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns due to globalisation, as a result of a continuation of the global financial and economic crisis, or as a result of a new global financial and economic crisis, and to assist them with their reintegration into the labour market. Belgium submitted an application for a financial contribution from the EGF in July 2023, seeking to address displacements in Makro Cash & Carry Belgium NV, operating in the retail trade sector. Following an assessment of this application, the European Commission concluded that the conditions for awarding a financial contribution from the EGF had been met. On 12 October 2023, the Commission adopted a draft Decision to allocate a financial contribution of around €2.8 million in respect of the application submitted by the Belgian authorities. The Council of the European Union endorsed it on 26 October, followed by the plenary of the European Parliament on 22 November. The Decision was formally signed by the co-legislators on 12 July 2023 and published in the Official Journal on 6 December 2023. |
