Summary: Council Decision of 21 January 2019 on the position to be taken on behalf of the Union as regards the adoption of the rules of procedure for dispute avoidance and settlement and the code of conduct for arbitrators and mediators under the EU-SADC Economic Partnership Agreement. Further information: The Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the European Union and its Member States, of the one part, and the SADC EPA States, of the other part has been provisionally applied between the EU and Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Eswatini and South Africa since October 2016, and between the EU and Mozambique since February 2018. The Joint Council was established to oversee and administer the implementation of the Agreement. In November 2018 the European Commission presented a proposal for a Council Decision on the position to be taken on behalf of the Union during the first meeting of the Joint Council, which is to adopt decisions regarding the rules of procedure for dispute avoidance and settlement and the code of conduct for arbitrators and mediators, in order to establish an operational framework for the provisions of Part III of the EPA on dispute avoidance and settlement. |
