Summary: Decision on the position adopted by the European Union in the EU-FYR Macedonia Stabilisation and Association Council regarding the transition to the second stage of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA). Further information: This SAA entered into force on 1 April 2004. In February 2008, following a letter from the government of Macedonia informing the European Commission of its readiness to initiate preparations for the passage into the second stage, the Commission started to assess the progress made by the country in this respect. The Commission's analysis led to the conclusion that Macedonia was ready to comply with the obligations deriving from the transition to the second stage. The European Commission adopted the proposal for a Decision bringing effectiveness to the transition to second stage of the Stabilisation and Association Process as regards FYR Macedonia in October 2009. However, the Council of the European Union did not adopt the proposed Decision until 14 May 2018. |
