Summary:

On 22 June 2018 the European Commission and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy presented a joint proposal for a Council Decision establishing the position to be taken on behalf of the Union in the EU-Morocco Association Council regarding the envisaged adoption of a decision extending the EU-Morocco Action Plan. The Council of the European Union adopted the Decision on 18 September.

The Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Kingdom of Morocco, of the other part entered into force in 2000. The Association Council has the power to take decisions and may also issue recommendations where necessary in order to achieve the aims set out in the Agreement.

The draft Decision establishes the position to be taken on behalf of the Union with regard to the proposed adoption of a decision to extend by one year the EU-Morocco Action Plan implementing the advanced status (2013-2017). The extension of the Action Plan will constitute the basis of EU-Morocco relations for the current year and will enable negotiations to begin to establish the direction of and the new priorities for the EU-Morocco partnership in the years ahead.
