Summary: On 23 July 2018 the European Commission presented a proposal for a Council Decision approving the accession of Samoa to the Interim Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the Pacific States. The Council of the European Union adopted the Decision on 6 December. Further information: The Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the European Community, of the one part, and the Pacific States, of the other part was signed in 2009. The EPA has been provisionally applied by Papua New Guinea since December 2009 and by Fiji since July 2014. In February 2018, Samoa submitted a request to accede to the EPA. The Commission assessed the offer and found it to be acceptable. Accordingly, negotiations with Samoa were concluded on 23 April 2018. |
