Summary: On 10 October 2018 the European Commission presented a proposal for a Council Decision on the position to be taken on behalf of the Union within the EU-Ukraine Association Committee, in connection with the envisaged adoption of a decision establishing the list of individuals to serve as arbitrators in dispute settlement proceedings. The Council of the European Union adopted the Decision on 19 November. Further information: The Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, of the one part, and Ukraine, of the other part aims to establish conditions for enhanced economic and trade relations leading towards Ukraine's gradual integration in the EU Internal Market, including by setting up a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, and to support Ukrainian efforts to complete the transition into a functioning market economy. The Agreement entered into force on 1 September 2017. The Association Committee in Trade configuration is to adopt a decision establishing a list of individuals willing and able to serve as arbitrators in dispute settlement proceedings. The purpose of the envisaged act is to provide for a mechanism to resolve trade-related disputes between the Parties to the Agreement, concerning the application or interpretation of the trade part of that Agreement. |
