Summary: On 4 May 2018 the European Commission presented a proposal for a Council Decision establishing the position to be taken on behalf of the Union in connection with the amendment of Annex III and Annex XVI to the Association Agreement between the European Union and Georgia. The Council of the European Union adopted the Decision on 18 September 2018. Further information: The Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, of the one part, and Georgia, of the other part aims to contribute to gradual economic integration and deepening of political association between Georgia and the European Union. The agreement entered into force on 1 July 2016. The Association Committee is a body established by the Agreement, which has the power to adopt decisions in the cases provided for in the Agreement and in areas in which the Association Council has delegated powers to it. Those decisions shall be binding upon the Parties, which shall take appropriate measures to implement them. The Association Committee meeting in trade configuration is to adopt two decisions regarding the update of Annex III (Approximation) concerning rules applicable to standardisation, accreditation, conformity assessment, technical regulation and metrology, and Annex XVI (Public Procurement) to the Agreement in light of the evolution of the Union acquis listed therein since the conclusion of negotiations of the Agreement in November 2013. |
