Summary: On 27 July 2018 the European Commission presented a proposal for a Council Decision establishing the position to be adopted on the Union's behalf regarding amendments to the COTIF Convention. The Council of the European Union adopted the Decision on 18 September 2018. Further information: The Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail (COTIF) governs the running of the OTIF, its objectives, attributions, relations with the Member States and its activities in general. There are 46 countries party to the COTIF Convention, including all EU Member States except Cyprus and Malta. Since 1 July 2011, the European Union is also a contracting party to the COTIF Convention. During its 13th session on 25 and 26 September 2018, the General Assembly of OTIF was expected to adopt certain amendments to the COTIF Convention and to its Appendices E (Contract of use of infrastructure in international rail traffic), G (Technical admission of railway material used in international traffic) as well as to decide on the adoption of a new Appendix H to the COTIF Convention regarding the safe operation of trains in international traffic. |
