It is amazing what some people will do to try to outwit Entre Nous.

Just as this page hit the streets last week with the tale of how Daniel Guéguen was denying reports of a move to UNICE (“Daniel makes his position clear”), Guéguen himself was resigning from a brief, controversial stint as COPA/COGECA secretary-general.

After months of rumours that the man at the top had little interest in farming and more in the décor of his office, Guéguen's resignation was accepted by the heads of the two farm union associations, COPA President David Naish and COGECA President Jos Ewert.

A replacement is now urgently sought and meanwhile day-to-day running is temporarily in the hands of Dominique Souchon, Stef Swinnen and Herbert Kellner.

The rumours continue, however: Guéguen claims he was effectively set aside and is said to be seeking compensation at least as generous as that meted out from the CAP funds to some of the farmers whose interests he briefly represented.
