Dangerous goods – call for single pan-European directive

Next time you are on a motorway or at a large railway station have a look at the amount of frieght on the move. The sheer amount is impressive - a sign of free moving trade creating jobs you might tell yourself. However, 8% of all freight is in fact dangerous goods such as fuel and gases. At present a patchwork of rules covers safety measures. A report debated by Members of the European Parliament on 4 September 2007 supports a European Commission plan to draw them all together into a single piece of EU law.
