Croatian Parliament established at its session of 19 January 2005, the National Committee as a special working body tasked to monitor the negotiations on the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union. The establishment of the National Committee resulted from the consensus of all parliamentary political parties that membership of Croatia in the European Union was a strategic national objective requiring joint co-operative action of the legislative and executive branch to be ensured within a transparent process of conducting future EU accession negotiations. One of the key elements of such process is the appropriate system of Parliamentary monitoring of the accession negotiations which would be achieved through the National Committee |
