Chancellor Angela Merkel met with Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski in Berlin, 30 October 2006. In response to Polish criticism of the Baltic Sea pipeline project Merkel said Poland and the Baltic states must have access to the European energy market. In addition, Merkel rejected compensation claims against Poland on the part of German complainants, saying the German government has a clear policy of not supporting claims asserted against Poland by individuals. |
