EDF could get back more than €1bn in 2010 after the EU's General Court (formerly the European Court of First Instance) reversed on the 15 December 2009 an earlier decision by the European Commission to penalise the French state-controlled electricity group six years ago.

The found that the European Commission had erred when it required EDF to repay €1.21bn of state aid on the grounds this had been provided illegally.
