Summary: Regulation (EU) 2022/515 - formally adopted by the Council of the European Union on 31 March 2022 - introducing amendments to Regulation (EU) 2022/109 concerning the 2022 catch limits for the main commercial fish stocks in the Atlantic, the North Sea and international fisheries in which EU vessels participate. Further information: Considering their potentially differing policy considerations and orientations, and as signatories to the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA), the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) exercised their respective roles by consulting the other party for the setting of fishing opportunities for shared stocks for 2022. On 21 December 2021, the EU agreed with the UK on the setting of a large number of total allowable catches (TACs) for 2022. The agreement in principle was laid down in theĀ Written Record for 2022, which was formally endorsed and signed on that same day. It therefore became necessary to implement TACs corresponding to fishing opportunities agreed in theĀ Written Record into the EU legal order. Besides, the proposal for this Council Regulation also addressed the need to set fishing opportunities for anchovy in the Bay of Biscay for 2022, given that the original Regulation had only set a provisional TAC. The draft law was tabled by the European Commission on 16 February 2022, and formally endorsed by the Council of the European Union on 31 March 2022. The Act was published in the Official Journal on 1 April 2022. |
