Summary: Regulation (EU) 2021/2283 - adopted by the Council of the European Union on 20 December 2021 - concerning the opening and management of autonomous tariff quotas of the European Union (EU) for certain agricultural and industrial products. Further information: Autonomous tariff quotas are needed for products where production in the EU is insufficient to meet the needs of the user industry in the EU for a given quota period. In response to requests from EU Member States, the European Commission, together with the Member States experts concerned, assesses and decides whether to open autonomous tariff quotas for certain agricultural and industrial products. Regulation (EU) No 1388/2013 was adopted to establish a framework on the opening and providing for the management of these autonomous tariff quotas. The Regulation has been amended biannually since its adoption to accommodate the needs of the EU industry. The draft law for a new Regulation was tabled by the European Commission on 19 November 2021, addressing the fact that the existing Regulation had been amended already 15 times and that there was a need to make several amendments to the Combined Nomenclature codes listed in the Annex to the Regulation, due to the adoption of Commission Regulation (EU) 2021/1832. The new Regulation therefore repeals Regulation (EU) No 1388/2013. It was adopted by the Council of the European Union on 20 December 2021 and published in the Official Journal on 22 December 2021. |
