Summary:Decision 2023/384 - adopted by the Council of the European Union on 20 February 2023 - as regards an assistance measure under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to the benefit of Jordan's Armed Forces. Further information:Council Decision (CFSP) 2021/509 established the European Peace Facility (EPF). This Facility can be used for the financing of assistance measures such as actions seeking to strengthen the capacities of third States and regional and international organisations relating to military and defence matters. A meeting of the EU-Jordan Council was held in June 2022, during which the new Partnership Priorities were adopted. These comprised the willingness to support cooperation on peace and security in Jorden, and to continue strengthening cooperation on regional stability and security. In November 2022, a request was received by the European Union (EU) to support the Jordanian Armed Forces by enhancing military capabilities. This Decision responds to that request, establishing an assistance measure benefitting the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, financed under the EPF. The objective is to enhance the capacities of its Armed Forces to ensure national security and stability of the country through the enhancement of its military medical services, engineer brigades and operational units in charge of securing its borders. The measure is worth €7 million. The Decision was adopted by the Council of the European Union on 20 February 2023 and published in the Official Journal on the following day. |
