Summary: Decision adopted by the Council of the European Union on 27 February 2020, amending Decision (CFSP) 2019/1894 concerning sanctions relating to Turkey's drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean. Further information: This Decision places two persons under restrictive measures in relation to Turkey's unauthorised drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean. These persons are responsible for or involved in planning, directing and implementing offshore hydrocarbon exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean which have not been authorised by Cyprus. The restrictive measures consist of a travel ban to the European Union (EU) and an asset freeze. Moreover, EU persons and entities are not allowed to make funds available to the two listed persons. The framework for sanctions in response to Turkey's illegal drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean was set up in November 2019. |
