Summary: Set of conclusions adopted at a meeting of the Council of the European Union on 22 February 2021, setting out the priorities of the European Union (EU) in human rights fora of the United Nations (UN) for 2021. Further information: The conclusions reaffirm the EU's commitment to respect, protect and fulfil human rights, democracy and the rule of law and to stand united in support of the UN human rights system as a cornerstone of its external action. The EU vows to place human rights at the core of its response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and global recovery in its aftermath, to monitor the situation globally and denounce human rights violations. The EU fully supports the work and mandate of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The conclusions also state that the EU is to use all available tools to fulfil its commitments to human rights. The Council conclusions on EU priorities at UN human rights fora are adopted on a yearly basis. |
