The European Commission published its proposals for a new Rural Development Regulation on 15 July 2004. The current Rural Development Regulation (1257/1999) is the legal basis for the England Rural Development Programme, which closes to applications at the end of 2006. Rural development programmes for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are also operated under this Regulation. The new draft proposals will form the basis for future rural development programmes across the EU for the period 2007-2013. The UK Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, on 17 August 2004, launched a web-based consultation seeking views on a number of issues around the proposals, ahead of formal negotiations beginning with European partners in September. Deadline for responses: 12 November 2004. |
