This consultation seeks comments on the European Commission proposal for a Regulation on the transboundary movement of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). The Regulation will implement into European Community law the provisions of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety not covered by existing Community law. The Cartagena Protocol sets out international rules governing decisions on the import and export of GMOs. The proposed Regulation focuses on exporter obligations, as imports of GMOs into and within the European Community are covered by existing legislation. Deadline for responses: 25 October 2002. |
