Introduction:
"In a joint statement published on 27 March 2014, Ofgem (the UK energy sector regulator) and the CMA (the newly formed UK competition authority) confirmed their shared view that the retail energy market is not working well. Not surprisingly, therefore, three months later the former asked the latter to embark on a full market investigation, which may result in sweeping structural and/or conduct remedies.
This is particularly the case given that Ofgem has been tinkering with this market to try to address the very same concerns about weak competition between larger energy suppliers and low customer trust and engagement since at least 2008."
