Summary: Set of conclusions adopted at the European Council summit in March 2018, relating to the relations between the European Union (EU) and the Western Balkans region, as well as on the activities undertaken by Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean and Aegeans seas. Further information: On the relations between the EU and the Western Balkans - against the background of a Communication from the European Commission on a strategy for those relations - the European Council showed its support to a summit taking place in May 2018, in which this matter was set to be discussed. On the Turkish gas drilling activities in the eastern Mediterranean and Aegean seas, the European Council showed its solidarity with Cyprus and Greece. The national leaders urged Turkey to respect the Cypriot right to exploiting its natural resources and showed concerns over the detention of EU citizens in Turkey. |
