Summary: Set of conclusions adopted by EU Member State representatives at a meeting of the Council of the European Union on 4 April 2022, concerning sport and physical activity as factors encouraging sustainable development. Further information: The text seeks to speed up behavioural change among individual and collective practitioners, producers and consumers of sporting goods and services, businesses involved in sports infrastructure, and organisers of events to reduce the impact that each of those has on the environment, biodiversity and climate. The conclusions also seek to better position sport as a lever for education and for taking account of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Despite progress in this area achieved by Member States, the European Commission and the sport movement, the Council aims to accelerate the efforts, intensifying them and, above all, accentuating their European dimension. Ministers also wished to affirm their determination to ensure that all sporting events are carried out in a ec0-responsible and sustainable way. The conclusions were adopted a meeting of the Council of the European Union on 4 April 2022. They were published in the Official Journal on 25 April 2022. |
