These conclusions provide a general assessment of the role of cohesion policy in fostering regional development in the European Union (EU), as well as the main implementation challenges and the way forward for the future. The Council recalls that the objective of social, economic and territorial cohesion is at the heart of EU integration, and highlights the importance of protecting the financial interests of the EU.

The conclusions were adopted at a Council meeting held on 22 November 2022.
