Competitiveness Council, 27-28 February 2020

Summary:

A meeting of the Competitiveness Council (COMPET) was held on 27-28 February 2020. The agenda includes the following items:

• Adoption of partial general approach on the Annex to the Strategic Innovation Agenda (SIA) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT);
• Exchange of views on the EU strategy regarding international cooperation in research and innovation, on the basis of a Note prepared by the Council Presidency;
• On the basis of a Note prepared by the Council Presidency, exchange of views on a set of matters relating to the European Green Deal:
  • Policies to support the industry's contribution to the attainment of the climate neutrality objective in 2050;
  • Policies to reduce the risk of carbon leakage;
  • Policies to facilitate and accelerate the transition to a circular economy through digitalisation;
• Adoption of conclusions in the context of the Council's better regulation agenda;
• Exchange of views on the findings of the Single Market Performance report drawn up by the European Commission, on the basis of a Note prepared by the Council Presidency;
• Presentation by the European Commission of relevant aspects of its Work Programme for 2020;
• Presentation by the European Commission of its first assessment of the potential impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on EU industry.
