Competition Commissioner Karel Van Miert cleared an Italian state-aid package worth 130 million ecu

to compensate for the closure of 2.5 million tonnes of capacity at 16 steel firms mostly situated in Brescia. But in six other cases, involving aid of 32 million ecu, the Commission has asked for further information.
