Compensation law flies into airlines’ flak

New European Union legislation came into force on 17 February 2005, designed to discourage airlines from overbooking and providing compensation for passengers for flight cancellations and long delays. However, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the European Low Fares Airlines Association (ELFAA) have launched a challenge to the legislation in the European Court of Justice and a ruling is awaited.
