The French Minister of Culture and Communication, Jean-Jacques Aillagon, confirmed during the Council of Culture Ministers in Brussels on 11 November 2002, that France would support a reduction in VAT on compact disks and cassettes. He also announced that François Léotard, a former French culture minister, would be responsible for convincing other EU countries of the merits of such a measure.
