Summary: Communication presented on 7 June 2019 by the European Commission giving an overview of the state of play of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and including the main orientations for the shaping of Commission proposals on fishing opportunities for 2020. Further information: The principal objective of fisheries management under the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is to ensure high long-term fishing yields for all stocks at the latest by 2020. Achieving this objective will also contribute to achieving good environmental status in European seas by 2020 and to minimising the negative impact of fishing activities on marine ecosystems. This Communication is accompanied by a Staff Working Document which looks in greater depth at: 1) the state of stocks; 2) the setting of fishing opportunities for 2019; 3) specific actions in the Mediterranean and Black Seas; 4) the balance between fleet capacity and fishing opportunities; 5) the economic performance of the EU fishing fleet; 6) progress in implementing the landing obligation; and 7) the role of recommendations by Advisory Councils in EU decision-making. |
