Summary: Communication published by the European Commission on 24 July 2020, setting out a strategy for the European Union's Security Union for the period 2020-2025. Further information: The political guidelines set out by the President of the European Commission called for improved cooperation to protect all those living in Europe. The EU Security Union Strategy maps the priority actions, tools and measures to deliver on that objective, both in the physical and in the digital world, and across all parts of society. It also recognises the increasing inter-connection between internal and external security. This Strategy focuses on build capabilities and capacities to secure a future-proof security environment. It sets out a whole-of-society approach to security that can effectively respond to a rapidly-changing threat landscape in a coordinated manner. It defines strategic priorities and the corresponding actions to address digital and physical risks in an integrated manner across the whole Security Union ecosystem, concentrating on where the EU can bring further value. This strategy lays out 4 strategic priorities for action at EU level:
The strategy builds upon progress achieved under the Commission's European Agenda on Security 2015-2020 and focuses on priorities endorsed by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. |
