Summary: The European Commission launched on 4 March 2020 a public consultation on a future European Climate Pact. Further information: The European Commission's European Green Deal was designed as a new growth strategy for the European Union (EU). The engagement of the public is seen as critical to instill a new climate culture, awareness and motivation for climate action, bringing together all stakeholders. To achieve this, the Commission launched a consultation in order to put forward a 'Climate Pact' later in 2020. The consultation was launched on 4 March 2020, alongside the adoption of a proposal for a so-called 'European Climate Law'. The public and interested stakeholders were given until 27 May 2020 to put forward their stances on this matter, ahead of the adoption of a Communication later in the year. |
