Summary:

Communication adopted by the European Commission on 17 March 2021, setting out a coordinated approach in the European Union (EU) for a gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions once the epidemiological situation allows.

Further information:

This document invites Member States to adopted a coordinated approach to safe re-opening and sets out steps and tools to achieve that common goal. These include:

  • Digital Green Certificates;
  • A European framework for COVID-19 response measures;
  • Guidance to support additional testing and tracing strategies;
  • Investment in treatments;
  • Helping the tourism and culture sectors to prepare for safe re-opening;
  • EU Vaccine Sharing Mechanism.

The Communication was adopted ahead of a meeting of the European Council later in the month.
