Summary:Communication adopted by the European Commission on 14 March 2023, presenting the strategic framework for European integrated border management (EIBM) for a period of five years. Further information:The European Council reiterated in February 2023 the importance of ensuring the effective control of the European Union's (EU) external borders as part of a comprehensive approach to migration. It invited the European Commission to finalise theĀ European Integrated Border Management (EIBM) Strategy. This Communication responds to that call, establishing the first strategic policy of this kind. It provides a shared framework and guidance for the implementation of an effective border management strategy for the period 2023-2027. The policy priorities and strategic guidelines for the EIBM components build on the document that launched the first EIBM strategic policy cycle in May 2022, incorporating the input received from stakeholders during consultation. The EIBM strategy is based on Regulation (EU) 2019/1896 establishing the European Border and Coast Guard (EBCG). The EIBM strategic framework was adopted by the European Commission on 14 March 2023. |
